What is a Quality Technician?
A Quality Technician is a paraprofessional who, in support of and under the direction of quality engineers or supervisors, analyzes and solves quality problems, prepares inspection plans and instructions, selects sampling plan applications, prepares procedures, trains inspectors, performs audits, analyzes quality costs and other quality data, and applies fundamental statistical methods for process control.
The Certified Quality Technician (CQT) typically has a combination of education and experience, and works in a variety of industries including manufacturing, healthcare, service sectors, and government.
CQT Certification Requirements
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the CQT examination, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
Option 1
- Eight years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the CQT Body of Knowledge
- No formal education required
Option 2
- Five years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the CQT Body of Knowledge
- Associate's degree from an accredited institution or technical degree/diploma
Option 3
- Three years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the CQT Body of Knowledge
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
Work Experience
"On-the-job experience" refers to work performed in quality roles such as inspector, test technician, data analyst, quality improvement team member, etc.
